Channeling in the media

Maybe this has been going on for a while but I didn't notice until recently that the mainstream media are using the word channeling a lot these days. I don't remember it being that way before. I have seen it used online as well as in magazine articles, in sources and contexts that are definitely not spiritual in nature.

The way I have seen it used, somebody might be channeling another living person, or you might be channeling a feeling associated with a particular time and place, or a characteristic of another person. You can channel Mel Gibson, or Hitler, or 19th century England, or your mom's tidiness. I find the use of the word channeling very interesting. Even though the media aren't talking about channeling people who have died or beings from other dimensions but are using channeling merely as a current buzzword, it makes me think that the whole world is subconsciously waking up to the concept of channeling spirit.
