Soul purpose vs. Sole purpose

I recently received a newsletter from psychic Debra Lynn Katz in which she talks about the concept of soul purpose. She said that whenever somebody suggested to her that she had obviously found her soul purpose--being a psychic--it rubbed her the wrong way. After a while she figured out that what bothered her is that people seem to equate soul purpose with "sole purpose" - meaning this is your one and only purpose in life. Debra felt that she had many, many purposes in life, only one of which is being a psychic.

This resonates with me very deeply. When I left the corporate world in 2005 to pursue a career as a psychic/counselor myself, I thought that counseling was my soul (and sole) purpose in life. Over time, though, I realized that my soul also wanted to do other things, such as paint, drive a taxi, translate, write books, etc. I now believe that most people have many different purposes in life, that can either be active at the same time or successively. The idea that you have to find one purpose and stick with it for the rest of your life, in my opinion, is an outdated one and not as relevant in our modern society, where so many things are possible and can be realized at the speed of thought.
